As we come to the close of Black History Month today, may we be reminded that our Black Heritage and major contributions of Blacks to the world's culture are a part of God's benevolent love toward us. Love is the power that binds us together in the unity of the Spirit. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "There is amazing power in unity. Where there is true unity, every effort to disunite only serves to strengthen the unity."

We are a Teaching congregation that has been called to the Ministry of Evangelism and Discipleship. "Faithful is He who called us, who also will do it" (I Thessalonians 5:24). The Left-Outs don't know that Jesus saves. The Soul Winning Action Team (S.W.A.T), our evangelistic street outreach ministry, shares the Plan of Salvation with them. The Drop-Outs' names are on the Church roll but they are missing persons. The Discipleship Follow-Up Ministry provides People Available to Contact and Encourage (P.A.C.E).

Despite the current controversial study regarding when to have mammograms, please be aware of the importance of early detection of breast cancer. The National Cancer Institute recommends that women in their forties and older have mammograms every one to two years.
The American Cancer Society's estimates for breast cancer in the United States for 2009 are: 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer, and 40,170 deaths from breast cancer. The estimates indicate that right now there are about 2 ½ million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
