As we come to the close of Black History Month today, may we be reminded that our Black Heritage and major contributions of Blacks to the world's culture are a part of God's benevolent love toward us.  Love is the power that binds us together in the unity of the Spirit.  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "There is amazing power in unity.  Where there is true unity, every effort to disunite only serves to strengthen the unity."

The 13^th Annual SAFE House Benefit Concert is this afternoon at 4:00 P.M. This Celebration of Music will be held at First United Methodist Church, 210 W. Church Street in Champaign. The University of Illinois Black Chorus is the special guest.  Dr. Ollie Watts Davis is Director. Canaan Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Church are co-sponsors.

Pastor Tatum is the guest speaker at Glory Center International Church on Tuesday, March 2, at 7:00 P.M. in observance of their 5^th Anniversary.  The location is 606 N. Country Fair Drive in Champaign.  The Canaan family is asked to accompany our Pastor en masse.

The DARE TO TRUST GOD Pledge Commitment is extended for the next 12 months - March 2010-February 2011.  Prayerfully consider your ability to sacrificially give each month over and above your tithes and offerings.  Will you give by Reason, which takes no faith, or by Revelation, which asks, "Am I willing to trust God?"

Join us each Wednesday at 7:00 P.M. for dynamic and relevant subject matters taught by Pastor Tatum.  This week's focus is "What You Need to Know about Stress."

We are proud that Canaan Boy Scout Troop 402 has produced 13 Eagle Scouts!

Congratulations to Dr. Stephanie Tatum who has been selected to receive the Ann Meyers Award from the New York State Association for Women in Administration (NYSAWA).   This prestigious award is given to recognize expertise in mentoring educational leaders. Dr. Tatum is an Associate Professor at Dowling College in New York.

We applaud our Canaan Academy Students for their humanitarian effort!  The 2^nd and 3^rd grade class held a bake sale and donated the $600 proceeds to aid the Haiti Earthquake victims.  The students presented the check to a representative of the American Red Cross Relief Fund.

L'Rufus Mitchell is instrumental in Operation: Backpack which provides essentials for the Haiti Earthquake victims.  Persons interested in providing supplies may contact l'Rufus at 217.722.7471.

The Greeters Ministry will meet Saturday, March 6, at 10:30 A.M. in the Fellowship Hall.  All members are asked to be present.

A Discovery Assurance Class for New Members will begin Sunday, March 28, at 8:30 A.M.

Our all-church "Forty Days of Fasting and Praying began Wednesday, February 24, and ends Easter Sunday, April 4.  Spiritual Fasting is a mighty force that produces powerfully dynamic results.  These Forty Days are a time to seek Divine guidance and assistance for problems and difficult situations.  Instructions are in our Church's Fasting Manual.

The Women's Auxiliary Retreat of Baptist General State Convention of Illinois is March 25-27, 2010, in Peoria, Illinois.  Sis. Barbara Tatum is facilitator of the Workshop, "Forgiveness Is For Me."

On April 10, Pastor Tatum will host Canaan's Men's Conference 2010 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Urbana. Conference speakers are: Rev. Dr. Walter Malone, Jr., Pastor of Canaan Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky; Rev. Jeffrey Johnson, Pastor of Eastern Star Baptist Church in Indianapolis Indiana; and Rev. Dr. Freddie Haynes, III, Pastor of Friendship West Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas.

The Health Ministry's First Place 4 Health Christ-centered weight-loss and healthy living program is each Saturday from 9-11 A.M.  Weigh-in begins at 8:45 A.M
